Brad Plumer, Steve Verdon and Angry Bear have all written posts trying to compare healthcare results between the U.S. and other nations.
Let me make the following points, all related to stuff I’ve previously posted about:
(1) Infant mortality rates are a bad way to compare the U.S. to other developed countries.
(2) Angry Bear has a chart comparing obesity rates, and that’s largely a function of racial makeup, and furthermore, being fat is healthy. I posted a healthy height-weight chart based on the new study.
(3) Our healthcare system is already mostly socialized, so it doesn’t surprise me that another socialized system, perhaps built from the ground up to be socialized, works better.
(4) We could save billions on drugs if we had free market competition.
