Matthew Yglesias writes, “I'm glad someone decided to write about class in America,” and links to a NY Times article about class.
First of all, I’ve been writing about class in my blogs for a long time. It comes up all the time in my posts, such as my reviews of I am Charlotte Simmons (part I and part II), my comments about Jessica Cutler and values, and my recent post about ugly children.
My opinion of the NY Time article is pretty low. It says very little about class. If you really want to understand class, read the book Class: a Guide Through the American Status System by Paul Fussell (which in addition to being educational is also very funny). And if you want to know about social mobility, read The Bell Curve by Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray. If you read these two books, then you’ll understand what’s really going on in American society.
