Glenn Reynolds often writes/brags about his expensive Digital SLR cameras. Well here’s a great article about an award winning photojournalist, Alex Majoli, who uses inexpensive “point and shoot” digital cameras. The Olympus C-7070 digital camera (the lastest and greatest equivalent to the C-5050 and C-5060 models discussed in the article) sells for less that $400.
The article features some great photos and some technical tips on how to get the most out of your high end non-SLR digital camera, so check it out if your interested in that kind of stuff.
I used to belong to a camera club. It was fun, but it was getting a bit on the expensive side so I left.
A propos of your post -
The club held a national seminar, with many of NZ's top photographers invited. One of the activities of the weekend was a visit to the local "pioneer museum" - a working village operated by volunteers. Each participant was given a disposable camera (the film packet camera).
The following day, I was sitting next to one of the professionals as he was sorting through the images he had taken the day before with the disposable. "I take $5,000 worth of gear with me every time I do a shoot. I am beginning to wonder why".
I quietly suggested to him that it was the person behind the camera that made the difference... He blushed, but he agreed.
