Half Sigma has been subject to a huge amount of comment spam during the last two days, so I turned on the Typekey authentication requirement. Sorry. I would rather people didn't have to sign in in order to leave a comment, but unfortunately for every legitimate comment I was deleting ten spam comments.
UPDATE: I turned authentication OFF now becaue I was unable to leave a comment on my own blog when it was turned on. I'll probably get spammed again now.
I use TypePad as well and have been subject to a similar barage the last few days. Thus far, I have just been deleting and banning IPs. I really don't want to turn on authentication. Except for today, I barely get comments as it is.

Update: Ha!
But seriously, is the spam automated, or are people manually sending it in? I'm not familiar with Typepad's particular system, but I've seen systems that, instead of signing in, you have to manually type in a displayed code to post. That seems easier to me to work with than registration.

The authentication works with Opera but not IE. I presume that 80% of the people using the interent are IE users, so that's pretty bad.
For a what's suppossed to be a "premium" blogging service that you have to pay money to use, Typepad has been pretty disappointing during the last two montohs.

I noticed the rise in spam comments and trackback on my typepad site too. I haven't turned on authentication yet but if spam persists, I am considering writing a strongly worded email to Typepad.
