Good article. Now, what this article (and many others) doesn't address is why people think they are "special". They all think they can make partner or get tenure.
Prospectives Phd or law students should imagine themselves as contestants in Trump's apprentice show. Only 1 out of the 16 will get that job. The rest of them will go home.
In all four seasons of the show, I have never heard a contestant explain his or her strategy on how to "win" the game without actually getting that job. The best they could do is some side commentary gig for Yahoo or small time development deals.
Real gifted people probably would have opted of this game for something more profitable.
