There's a fascinating NY Times article about a virus that makes people fat.
So maybe the "obesity epidemic" is not a result of a recent lack of willpower or too many McDonald's, but rather a real epidemic caused by a virus.

This obsession with fat is endlessly amusing to me, and bizarre. For the first time in human history people who have enough to eat worry about getting fat? Hey, I know a guy from India who would love to come to America because, as he put it, "It's a country where people actually have enough foot to be fat."
I guess it's all a matter of perspective. I know that I prefer rounded objects-----vases, animals and people. Round, after all is the PERFECT shape.
