According to the NY Times, 50% of black teenage girls, but only 20% of white teenage girls (aged 14 to 19) are infected with a common sexually transmitted disease (STD).

This indicates that (1) black girls have more sex than white girls; and/or (2) black girls, because they are less intelligent, are less capable in preventing such diseases; and/or (3) black girls have less future time orientation, so they don’t worry as much about the future consequences of their actions. This is all consistent with J. Philippe Rushton's r/K selection theory.

However, the article blames Republicans for “promoting abstinence-only programs.” The underlying assumption behind this assignation of blame is rather racist. The implication is that you can’t stop black girls from having sex because it’s in their jungle nature.

The next question to ask is what's the infection rate of teenage/college age boys (aka the carriers)?

I suspect it would be a much smaller rate, because those girls are sleeping with the same players.

I don't know, that compliance rate sounds utterly ridiculous. Especially considering what compliance involved. It wasn't like they were being asked to fill out a 10-question survey.

This post just screams Gannon. Obviuosly, this indicates that black teens are more promiscuous and have more sexual partners than white girls. But the truth is that women are at their sexual peak between the ages of 14 and 22, even if society denies this. (1) Or they have less sex but are more succeptible to the diseases. If we are going to entertain inherent biological differences then this is one very basic way in which populations often differ.

(2) Well we already established that the average IQ was lower and there were real world consequences. Although, just yesterday we were talking about a man of very high IQ man who was interested in sex with prostitutes without a condom.

(3) I think also this one was established as uncontraversial. Both liberals and conservatives would espouse this.

(4) They are poorer and poorer people in any country are more likely to have infections for a whole host of reasons.

(5) They have less stable lives and less control over their lives. So they have less control over whether they get raped or sexually abused(it happens much more often to women and especially poor women than you think). The men go to jail in higher numbers (a good place to contract STDs). The poverty and high incarceration rate undermine longterm relationships.

(6) They are less likely to have healthcare coverage to deal with infections once they have them.

(7) They have a large number of single parent households.

Though they didn't mention it directly, of those having STDs, I bet about 90% have HPV. It's pretty endemic, and if you've had sex with someone who's had sex with someone else (who's had sex with someone else... and so on), you probably have had it.

Girls who have sex with considerably older men are probably the most likely to have HPV. I wouldn't be surprised if the STD incidence amongst teen boys is much lower... they probably don't get sex as much as the girls.

I also wanted to analyse this chunk of thinking here just to highlight the quality of reasoning here. So you highlight a phenomenon "black teens are more likely to have an STD". You then give three different explanations (1), (2) and (3). You say ALL three explanations are covered by Rushton's theory then you imply this somehow makes the theory more valid. I would argue that if you have 3 different explanations of which any combination and proportion of them would be explained by the same theory, then it's not a very predictive theory.

Well Gannon, a point you don't seem able to grasp is that girls below a certain age are off-limits even if attractive. The girl in the poster, who seems about 13 or 14, may be hot, but if you decide to act on your urges and get it on with her you will go to prison. Is that hard to comprehend?

The inclusion of the Planned Parenthood chick for one quote, and her picture when she is not the author of the study was gratuitous. As far as we know she had nothing to do with anything.

What I did find interesting was was more info on the CDC site about the study which included:

So if 50% of the whites * 40% rate = 20% overall rate of occurance.

So the rate of occurance in teens that didnt have sex must have been close to 0%

They dont break out the rate of sexual activity so it hard to do the same thing on blacks but it seems like the conclusion is that abstinence was a very effective method used by a large percentage of the population.

It would have been interesting to see if a decrease in partners leads to a decrease in the rate of std occurance, but if it did then the Government would be placed in the uncomfortable position of promoting public morality for the good of public health.

Hypothesis Zone:

1) Rural black youth in the south are more likely to live in jurisdictions where abstinence-only sexual education is commonplace.

2) Urban black youth are more likely to live in jurisdictions where protection measures are encouraged with condoms and birth control, but due to high drop out rates, it's very likely that most students have never taken the class.

3) From what I've learned from oncologists, it seems that blacks on average have lower white blood cell counts than their white counterparts which has interesting effects on disease resistance. Hell, the dark skin makes vitamin D absorption worse, and increases cancer risk for blacks too. It's almost as if nature hates us...

4) I wonder if the count is inflated due to immigration from Africa or the Caribbean

I'm 25 and I wouldn't have sex with her. While she is attractive, she's just much too young and immature for me, and I'm not interested in training virgins on how to enjoy sex. Also, I'd consider it to be shameful to take advantage of such a young woman and her naivety when she's inexperienced and has no means of discerning the difference between a good man and a loser like myself.

Even if I was in Canada, where I periodically visit where you have shown that such young women are legal, I would refrain from sleeping with her for reasons listed.

Well, remember that STDs are... infectious diseases. Most began spreading among Europeans centuries ago, but just recently among Africans, so Euros will have had longer for natural selection to find alleles that protect against infection.

The exception is HIV -- that's very recent. Still, there's an allele that's very common among NW Euros that protects against HIV (it was obviously selected for something else in the past, but happens to protect against a modern disease).

More promiscuity etc. plays a role, but genetic susceptibility to disease plays a role too, especially if one group's dealt with them for far longer than the other.

There is some work in HIV that suggests that black women have very low risk factors such as high monogamy, not being intravenous drug users in general, not typically being intoxicated during sex acts but in general were less aware of being infected and were less likely to use condoms with long term partners.

The issue is the power differential in the relationships where men are often uncooperative in terms of wearing condoms. Although as a group black women earn more than black men, there are fewer men due to the high incarceration rate and low income for men. This gives men more power in relations and also allows men to more easily manage to be polygamous.

This is one situation where almost every liberal idea makes more sense. It makes more sense to reduce the incarceration rate of black males (a lot of these men are probably contracting STDs through sex that isn't consensual); and to educate the kids on safe sex in schools.

The one caveat I would have is emphasizing condoms too strongly rather than having a more holistic education of the risks involved which seems to be a liberal fetish.

It is a bit strange that they don't encourage more abstinence as in many other ways the health profession is actually quite interested in modifying social mores like trying to get men not to abuse women etc.

I've read that one factor that severely increased the risk of STD and HIV infection among blacks was the prevalence of long term concurrent relationships. In short, black men and women whether in africa or outside of africa were much likelier than evryone else to be involved long term with 2 or more partners . So this gives a number of lifetime partners which can be low but very misleading .

On an anecdotal note : I have a cousin from Boston who told me some very scary things about how incredibly promiscuous he found southern black women/girls. This was coming from a guy (black man from boston ) who's quite a skirt chaser himself. He was genuinely freaked out by how loose they had seemed to him during his trips there. He was basically scared of them !

The point about our basic differences in susceptibility of course makes sense to me. genetics matters and we're just not "all the same" .

This is just anecdotal, but from my experiences as a Southern white boy of privilege, I'd say roughly 10% of the white women are low-down dirty sluts. The other 90% are pretty damn monogamous, with a small percentage being frigidly asexual. Southern black women, like the above commenter stated, are more like 90/10 the other way around. I'm just sayin...I may be white, but I've been "propositioned" by enough black slit to turn me on to sickle cell. They started earlier down here too. The black girls would tell us "good kids" about sex and their experiences starting about the 4th or 5th grade.
