Democrats drive young women to prostitution
This is the bio of Ashley Alexandra Dupré (Spitzer's hooker) from her MySpace site (MySpace link courtesy of excellent reporting from The New York Post Times):
I am all about my music, and my music is all about me… It flows from what I’ve been through, what I’ve seen and how I feel. I live in New York and am on top of the world. Been here since 2004 and I love this city, I love my life here. But, my path has not been easy. When I was 17, I left home. It was my decision and I’ve never looked back. Left my hometown. Left a broken family. Left abuse. Left an older brother who had already split. Left and learned what it was like to have everything, and lose it, again and again. Learned what it was like to wake up one day and have the people you care about most gone. I have been alone. I have abused drugs. I have been broke and homeless. But, I survived, on my own. I am here, in NY because of my music. It started when I moved in with a musician during my odyssey to New York. One day, I was in the shower singing “respect.” He and his lead guitarist burst in, had me repeat it and it started. We wrote, rehearsed and toured. After recording a bit with them, I decided to move to Manhattan to pursue my music career. I spent the first two years getting to know the music scene, networking in clubs and connecting with the industry. Now, it’s all about my music. It’s all about expressing me. I can sit here now, and knowingly tell you that life’s hard sometimes. But, I made it. I’m still here and I love who I am. If I never went through the hard times, I would not be able to appreciate the good ones. Cliché, yes, but I know it’s true. I have experienced just how hard it can be. I can honestly tell you to never dwell on the past, but build from it and keep moving forward. Don’t let anyone hold you back or tell you that you can’t…because you can. I didn’t and here I am, just listen to it…. What we Want is my latest track. It’s really about trust, something my past has made very difficult for me to feel. This one was inspired by a guy, who taught me not to confuse my dreams with the sounds of the city…I hope you like it. I created my own profile using nUCLEArcENTURy.COM and you should too!
So we see, we can blame this whole sordid mess on Democratic policies. If the Democrats would free the New York City housing market and allow developers to build more apartments to meet the demand, girls like Ashley, from non-wealthy families, would be able to afford to live in Manhattan without having to resort to prostitution.
But I guess if Democratic politicians instituted housing reform, they would have no one to pay for sex, so this explains why the Democrats have enacted these anti-free market policies.
Republicans are pro-free market because they have higher moral values and don't pay for sex.
It was for reasons of free market housing that I endorsed John Faso for governor and not Eliot Spitzer.
I always wondered if a blogger could troll his own website. Now I know.

WTF?
This blog post has to be a joke. If it is, it is brilliant piece of satire. If it is not, well....

What I don't get is how someone who cites Etta James, Frank Sinatra, and Patsy Cline as influences could record a song like that.

Sig's regular arguments are so bad that I think he actually believes this.

Wow, HalfSig has really gone around the bend on this one. Methinks the lady doth protest too much....

ROFL!
How about:
Republicans kill inner-city children by denying them free healthcare.
Republicans kill our soldiers in Iraq by sending them to die there.
Republicans are responsible for women who die from complications of pregnancy in states where abortion is illegal.
Republicans were responsible for the Holocaust because they opposed entry into WW2.
Republicans are responsible for the heart attacks of people who die from overwork because they don't belong to unions which Republicans help break up.
Republican policies which take money away from the poor and force them to work harder cause them to eat junk food, get diabetes, and have limbs amputated and go blind.
Republicans are responsible for the idiocy of Hollywood by creating the anti-intellectual climate in America.
The same anti-intellectual climate is why we're falling behind in math and science, and who perpetuates that? Republican jocks and coaches!
Republicans are driving species to extinction through global warming.
Oh dear, anyone else?

hahahhahaha HILARIOUS post. classic. very well done, halfsig!
(I mean, I'm assuming it's a joke, right? otherwise, it's completely insane.)

You make a great point; republicans don't pay for sex. Some just cruise airport mens rooms so they can suck c&#!^ while supporting religious right initiatives. I think it's apt to say that power corrupts most individuals; it's just a matter of degree...and sexual preference I guess.

Whatever happened to the "take responsbility for your own actions" mantra that is repeated ad nauseum by right-wingers?
Pursue her music career? Girls like Trashley entitled to live in Manhattan while pursuing their dreams?
How about taking some responsibility for your own actions?

Sig detractors need to read up on Sailer's affordable family formation hypothesis. Sig is just applying that to these circumstances. My question is what ethnicity she is? Youmans could be an English (a corruption of Yeoman) or an Arab (Lebanese) name. Her mother is Italian. I don't think she is Hispanic. What is her father?
Btw, this is her brother's myspace profile

"Republicans are pro-free market because they have higher moral values and don't pay for sex."
HalfSigma: Getting more retarded by the day. :)
Well, I can't leave it at that ad hominem. I'm going to assume most of this post was in jest.

When I first saw her pictures on the Times' site my thought was that she looked Lebanese. I've known many Lebanese Christians and there's a hard-to-describe but distinctive look that many of them share.

Jim Beam:

No one says that they're entitled--just that the government shouldn't make it more difficult than it already is by interfering in the housing market.
Anyway, that "Trashley" comment is a bit premature. According to the article, she may not even have known who he was.

Really, HS. Since when do you believe anything a good-looking woman writes in a blog?
Posted by: Spungen | March 13, 2008 at 12:46 AM
Republicans ... don't pay for sex.
Got any GSS backup for this assertion?

According to the GSS data there is no difference between Pubs and Dems in ever having visited a prostitute (about 8%). But those belonging to an "other party" (i.e. involuntarily celibate libertarians) were twice as likely (14%).
When we look at having paid for sex in the last year, which we might consider more a measure of routine behavior, there is, again, no difference (3%). Though "strong" Dems and Pubs (and "other party") may be twice as likely to use prostitutes than their more centrist brethren (4% vs 2%, but sample sizes are small here).
Political drive may be associated with sex drive. Might be worth a future look.

Both Pubs and Dems are just about the same in very mildly agreeing there is nothing inherently wrong with prostitution. With centrist Republicans being the most approving, and all other types being equal in opinion. ("other party" are the least approving, and so possibly the most hypocritical).
"Strong" Pubs and Dems both had less frequent sex then their more centrist counterparts in the last year, so instead of higher sex drive, maybe strong political opinions are associated with less social/sexual appeal, and prostitutes are the solution.
("Strongs" are overrepresented in the no sex last year category, and underrepresented in the 4+ times a week category. Dead centrists are 2nd most underrepresented in the no sex category (centrist Pubs being the least celibate) and most overrepresented in the most sex category. "Other party" folks are bimodal, being somewhat overrepresented in both categories.)

Scratch that. Should be: 'Very mildly disagreeing'. Meaning that every group dislikes it.

Do the GSS figures control for age? People tend to Do the Dirty Deed less often as they get older, and if older people tend to have stronger political view that might account for the lower sexual activity of the "strongs."

She obviously knew she was working as a hooker. Whether she knew the identities of her tricks is sort of beside the point as far as her alleged trashiness is concerned.

HS,
There is something very third worldish about a young woman wanting to be a singer against very long odds. The current crop of 20 something female singers have been practicing since they 4 or 5 years old to include lessons, choir, auditions, junior shows, etc.
Yet, Ms. Dupre comes off most like your typical urban black in that a profession that requires knowledge skills was cut off to her, many career fields are so dominate by immigrants where she grew up that she did not seem them as alterantives. So she did the thing that many urban minorities do, she decided to become an entertainer. Is there any difference between young blacks wanting to be rap stars and young white girls wanting to win American Idol?
If she would have gone to LA, she probably would have ended up in porn but NYC seems to lend itself to escort services.
I wonder why she did not become a stripper?

If the Democrats would free the New York City housing market
If only they had let Giuliani have his way. Oh, wait - he favored continuing rent control too. Sorry, but this is a bipartisan problem (at least in NYC). I expect that too many influential people like the low cost apartments their connections have granted them.

Two words, David Vitter. The only difference between Republicans getting caught paying for sex and Democrats, is that the Republicans don't have the honorabilty to resign.
