Steve Sailer linked to this Washington Post article about a “staff report” produced by the Fairfax County school system that had to be “abandoned” by the school board because it “would fuel negative stereotypes.”
I have a hard time figuring out what the article is about. So maybe people will correct me because I have the facts wrong, but here’s my take:
(1) Someone decided that in addition to teaching traditional academic subjects, the Fairfax County schools should also teach life skills deemed “essential for success in the workplace” such as “the ability to contribute effectively in a group” the ability to “resolve conflicts,” and “the demonstration of moral character and ethical judgment.”
(2) Part of the plan included measuring students’ level of ability in these non-academic life skills.
(3) The measurements showed that blacks do poorly in these non-academic life skills compared to whites.
(4) The Fairfax County School Board thus votes to “abandon” the report (how do you do that exactly?) and change the plan because the skill gap between whites and blacks demonstrated that the teachers were racist in measuring their students. The Fairfax County School Board, you see, has received word from Higher Powers that blacks and whites are identical in these life skills, and thus they know that the only reason the measurements would show otherwise is because of racist teachers.
You reached the same conclusion I did.

Can you please start another thread as I will be bored where the logic of your sad commentary will take us?

Sailer had an article a while back about the LA school commisioner determining that all the teachers were racists because of performance gaps.
It is one thing for the left to call people in basically conservative professions racists. But teachers? Is there an occupational category that votes more Democrat or believes more strongly in the blank slate? Maybe social workers.
We should take this as a sign that the left is going to rip itself apart over race realism.
They are taking a solid constituency and saying they're the enemy. Institutional racists one and all. Maybe teachers will join the hbd crowd as their "racism" is more frequently cited as the cause of unequal outcomes.
I would like to see if African-American students with African-American teachers perform better on independent measures of either reasoning or learning than black students who have white teachers. It would be strong evidence that a portion of the academic gap is due to racist (or nonracialist) white teachers. I have the feeling that strong evidence of discrimination would be cited constantly, and that the evidence points the other way.

Teacher racism comes up only in an indirect way in the article. At one point it says that " ...concerns were raised that findings were based on subjective measures, such as elementary report card data ..." and later on that " ... [I]n coming months, the board intends to review the potential for teacher bias in report cards ...". In other words, some people on the school board might be thinking that teachers take race and ethnicity into account when preparing report cards (which I suppose is possible, though highly unlikely) and that the report's findings drew on these supposedly tainted report cards. Whether that's tantamount to claiming that teacher racism is the reason for the gap, well I'm not quite sure.

Rob:
From No Excuses, written by Abigail and Stephan Thernstrom:
p. 201
...Do black students actually learn more from black teachers? Very few studies of educational achievement have examined the link to the racial identity of teachers, but until very recently, the limited research available yielded a simple conclusions: The race of teachers is irrelevant. For example, Ehrenberg, Goldhaber, and Brewer used the National Education Longitudinal Study sample of eight-graders who were testedin 1988, and then again two years later, and found that a teacher's race or gender did "not play an important role" in how much students learned over that span of time. The study did show that black, Hispanic, and female tenth-grade teachers tended to rate students of their own race or gender more highly than others on a series of questions about their performance and potential. But these more positive feelings about such students did not make any difference in student test scores...
The bold is mine, but that's the short answer.

"But these more positive feelings about such students did not make any difference in student test scores..."
I'm shocked! The race of teachers was irrelevant? And a warm, steaming pile "positive feelings" had no impact on reality either? That just about sums up modern liberalism/progressivism/leftism or whatever you want to call it. Don't worry, they'll keep feeling "positive" and the disasters will keep coming...And when these idiots can't remain "positive," they'll ignore reality. Nothing to see here, please disperse! If I didn't laught, I'd cry...

It's been a while since I was a teenager, but, I wonder what white students are thinking about PC these days?
Are white students becoming sick of the "Enrichment" steaming pile of racial diversity, or are they swallowing PC hook line and sinker?

Teachers over thirty in mixed-race counties typically need one dog whistle comment on race realism to sneak off with you to recite the litany of humiliations and slights they've suffered.

It's like watching a tea party with an elephant at the table knocking over tables and chairs, destroying the China and causing general havoc. All the while, the human attendees wonder what might be causing the ruckus.

It's likely that they do, but not in the way you think.
It's likely that they grade whites and East Asians harder than the others.

I still savor the moment when my whiterperson sister unburdened herself to me. She had engaged in all the popular forms of PC moral sniping for years at my expense. That was all washed away in a torrent of honesty. It only took two years of teaching in a mostly Mestizo classroom to undo years of political indoctrination. I guess diversity is good for something, just not what they tell ya its good for.

Well, they're certainly enthusiastic supporters of Obama, aren't they?
I believe that the students themselves are often the biggest promoters of PC brainwashing.

An amusing article, especially this part:
After hearing from nearly 100 people at three meetings, the committee concluded that too often minority parents feel "a sense of alienation" in their children's public schools. Many could not name their school board representatives or articulate their functions, the report said.

"...too often minority parents feel "a sense of alienation" in their children's public schools."
We are talking about minorities and education here. They mix about as well as oil and water. Same shit, different newspaper article...

Thanks APH,
Since white teachers have, on average, higher IQs than non-Asian minority teachers,
that is fairly strong evidence that students with smart teachers don't learn than students with dumb teachers.
So there's one fewer thing to factor into "teacher quality"

The Fairfax County schools are beginning to look like the old post Jim Crow southern schools. The Elementary schools are divided based upon class since neighborhoods are small enough to limit undesirables. However, the high schools are blatantly using tracking to put the rich whites and Asians in one group and the hispanics, blacks, and poor in the other. The AP/IB tracks are almost totally White or Asian (including Iranians and European immigrants). Foreign languages classes for European languages are about as white as a Klan meeting. Yet, the non-AP,non-honors class look like a Latino rap video. The white kids have their elective classes like band and theater. The Asian kids have their electives like orchestra. And the Hispanics just do not care.

It occurs to me that the whole "life skills" report was probably nothing but make-work fluff in the first place. Abandoning it may be a sign of rampant P.C. but in other respects was a sensible move.

"It occurs to me that the whole "life skills" report was probably nothing but make-work fluff in the first place."
I'll bet "life skills," along with other fluff, was introduced some time ago in order to boost minority scores because objective shit like math grades were lacking, like they always are. The good educators panicked and had to some up with something to pad the data with. Of course, the "extra credit" didn't work either, so it has to be dumped.

How are they using tracking to put "poor" anywhere?

“essential for success in the workplace”
What's essential for suckcess in the workplace? Ass-kissing? Complacency? Perception over reality? Union busting? Gossiping? Willing to work for the lowest wage/salary possible?
I'm sure in most jobs that people have those are the keys to suckcess. There are a few professions out there where your performance actually determines whether or not you will succeed.
such as “the ability to contribute effectively in a group”
One of the many factors I consider when taking a course or accepting a job offer. Whether or not I have to work with other people. I'd rather stay away from groupwork.
and “the demonstration of moral character and ethical judgment.”
Maybe if you're living in a command economy where you produce things for use instead of competing in an open market. Otherwise, those are traits you DO NOT want to have if you're working in a capitalist economy.

"Are white students becoming sick of the "Enrichment" steaming pile of racial diversity, or are they swallowing PC hook l
line and sinker?"
One thing to remember about the younger white generations is that they have a lot more non-whites their age around them than older generations do. In far more areas they are out-numbered by their non-white peers. It takes far more courage to visibly, as opposed to internally, oppose PC multi-cultural bullshit (which non-whites disproportionately believe in, contra the delusional Wall Street Journal) in those situations.
I'm not saying that's the whole story. Sure, younger whites have been more indoctrinated, which could either make them more acquiescent or more fed-up. But this relative numbers analysis would predict less younger white visible opposition to PC even if they internally oppose it just as much and are just as "brave" as older generations.

You have to understand how dangerous this really is. We now have at least 2 solid generations that have been told that white people are the root of all evil. What happens when whites no longer control the judicial, media, and governments systems? What happens next is sure to be "land reform," reparations, forced community diversity, and even more acceptance of violence against whites.
Of course, this might not happen and the world's people might all hold hands in a circle and dance to the many beautiful ballots of multiculturalism.
But if the hand holding doesn't happen; then what? It would seem that it would be smart to start at least thinking about organizing as European Americans? It must be pointed out that the elite whites will react very strongly against this. Their interests are very much in danger of any middle and working class white organization. They would much prefer the whole right-left political charade that is currently providing a good way of life for them. So it must be expected that they will make it sound as if the 4th Reich is only a torchlight parade away if whites start looking out for their interests.
The question is: Are you really ready to look your children their eyes and wish them a happy day at school knowing that they're going to a white beating and rape zone? What will you say when your kids ask you how it came to this?
It starts out as kind of funny that liberal school administrators would blame "racism" for low black and mestizo test scores. But if we think about where this will lead as power shifts in this country during the demographic transition and it becomes rather eye opening.
