Andrew Sullivan posted a video of a recent Sarah Palin speech (I only watched the video on the top of the page). This is much more valuable to watch than her speech to the convention. The convention speech was merely Sarah speaking someone else’s words. The linked-to video, however, is what the real Sarah Palin sounds like, unscripted and raw.
(This is the speech where she talks about Track's two tattoos. It's worth viewing just for that wonderful bit of proleness.)
She’s very cute and perky, but that’s not what the Commander in Chief should be like. That’s not the image we want to project to the world. Maybe she’ll be able to rise to the occasion, but that’s a huge risk to take when so much is at stake. If she goes to the United Nations and speaks like that, the United States will be the laughing-stock of the world.
I think they're no risk of her being the person she was ever again. The bigger risk is what an empty vessel for the forces she represents.

she meant:
"What I need to do is strike a deal with you guys as you go out throughout Alaska — I can do my part in doing things like working really, really hard to get a natural gas pipeline." Palin said. "bribe your congress representative about that also. I think Senator Stevens's will has to be done, in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so bribe your congress representative for that. But I can do my job there, in developing our natural resources, and doing things like getting the roads paved, making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded.
"But really, all of that stuff doesn’t do any good if the people of Alaska's hearts isn't right with Senator Stevens. And that's going to be your job," she said. "As I'm doing my job, let's strike this deal. Your job is going to be: to be out there, reaching the people, hurting people throughout Alaska, and we can work together to make sure Senator Stevens's will be done here."

We're already the laughing stock of the world because the world resents us. The world wants an American president who will stand up and tell them that we have done them all wrong.

'If she goes to the United Nations and speaks like that, the United States will be the laughing-stock of the world'
This is indeed a very middle class way of looking at the problem: *image* is everything; we must be aghast at how others might perceive us. I imagine there were people in the soviet union who thought the same way about that bumpkin, Kruschev - but he was probably the best leader they had for a long time.
