This NY Times article about the spread of AIDS in the United States has two noteworty findings:
(1) "[T]he majority of new cases occur among gay and bisexual men." Gay men really need to be held more responsible for their risky behavior. In addition to all of the anti-drug commercials, we need a public information campaign telling people not to have anal sex.
(2) "Black people, who make up about 12 percent of the population, accounted for more than 45 percent of the new infections, the study found." Why is that? The article doesn't say. The article also doesn't mention the extremely high AIDS infection rate in Africa. I have some possible ideas.
(a) Black people are simply more susceptible to catching this virus.
(b) Black people have more sex. Gay black men have more anal sex than gay white men. More sex and more sexual partners leads to more infections.
(c) Because black people have lower IQs (one standard deviation less than whites), they are less able to understand how to take measures to reduce the risk of AIDS.
(d) Blacks have lower future time orientation than white people. Future time orientation is a trait highly correlated with general intelligence. Low future time orientation causes blacks to value the sexual pleasure of the moment over the future consequences.
