More embarassing Palin news.
$55,000 paid to Palin's "fashion stylist."
$110,000 paid to Palin's "traveling hair stylist and makeup artist"
She's supposed to be a "regular American." Newsflash: regular Americans do not spend six figures on their hair!
Even John Edwards didn't spend that much on his hair, and he's filthy rich. I'm sure the Republicans who mocked Edwards will be silent about this. I am so disgusted by this Palin double standard. Even Steve Sailer refuses to criticize her, yet Steve has been highly critical of Bush.
Let her have her roots done, it is nothing:

I want Bawney Fwank's head...Another disaster in the making. Wait until 2009. If you thought the NAM stampede at Wally World was bad, just wait. There will be murder over Spam. I'm off to get more ammo and mags (and maybe that Saiga rifle I've had my eye on), you all should be too.

I just sent Steve an e-mail with incontrovertible proof that Palin's personal shopper was none other than Paul Wolfowitz. Expect Steve to turn against her immediately if not sooner.

waddaya expect, HS? a lot of middle-aged guys can't think straight when the person in question is a (for her age) reasonably attractive woman. if mccain had game, he might have been able to keep palin's spending habits under control.
but you're really giving her too much of a hard time. there's a culture war aspect to palin that transcends all the trivial handwringing about her family and hairdos, so for the greater good of victory in that war many right-of-center pundits are reflexively and justifiably defending palin. to wit, i'd rather have palin's $100K coif in the white house than edwards $300 boufant, even if neither are a satisfactory choice. i've written about the underlying psychology of this cultural phenomenon that has single urban women lining the barricades launching vicious fusillades at palin and her lifestyle.

How much did Precedent Elect Obama's Greek columns cost again?
"Did you know that Sarah Palin-haters are still trying to prove she didn’t give birth to her youngest son, Trig? These tinfoil hat-wearers are as obnoxious and unhinged as the 9/11 Truth cultists who insist that America engineered the jihadi attacks on itself. The presidential campaign may be over, but there’s no expiration date on Palin Derangement Syndrome." - Michelle Malkin in her recent column

The right-wing whackos worship Palin because she is a charismatic attractive self-made woman of power who represents the white Christian pro-gun America they want to see.
Posted by: Linda | December 05, 2008 at 01:13 PM
And I should also add she has 5 kids. Right-wing whackos love white women who pump out lots of babies because it means America isn't dependent on non-white immigration.

"the greater good of victory in that war many right-of-center pundits are reflexively and justifiably defending palin"
...by adopting feminist language to defend the notion that women can have it all, that there are no limits on the career choices that a mother with small children can make, to praise unwed motherhood, and to shriek incessantly about "rampant sexism", all to support a candidate who calls herself a feminist. Way to hold up the conservative banner guys.

"The right-wing whackos worship Palin...."
Versus the left-wing whackos who worship "The One" because he's a charismatic attractive post-racial man who represents a Gaia worshipping European style socialism they want to see.

How much did Al Gore spend to have Naomi Wolf Alpha-male-ize him?

Linda - "The right-wing whackos worship Palin because she is a charismatic attractive self-made woman of power..."
So then, what do we call those, such as yourself, who worship Oprah because she is a charismatic self-made woman of power?

"Self-made woman of power?" It looks like she is made of 300 lbs of liver stuffed into plastic bags....

Is IQ expert Linda the same as Oprah worshiping Linda?
[Half Sigma: yes they are the same IP address.]

"$110,000 paid to Palin's "traveling hair stylist and makeup artist""
I can think of a much, much, much worse form of grooming she could have had.

HS - "She's supposed to be a "regular American." Newsflash: regular Americans do not spend six figures on their hair!"
Dude!, your PDS is still showing...
All of the articles about this supposed snafu refer to either the McCain campaign or the RNC paying for these things - typically via paying a particular person for services (supposedly) rendered. So, where is it that you get the idea that Sarah Palin is the one behind the excessive spending? Do you really believe she demanded such lavish expenditures?
Do you really think a low-IQ (what have you got her at these days? 75?) ditz from a hick state, who could barely graduate from college, would have any idea what the things in question cost?
Isn’t this like the suffers of BDS who simultaneously contend that Bush is an utter moron, yet is the master-mind behind global conspiracies?
Do you just accept all of this stuff without bothering to consider any other possibility than that Palin herself is to blame for everything that went wrong?
Seems to me an intelligent legally-educated man might well think just a bit deeper about the matter. Perhaps you might wonder why the hell were these people paid so much for dressing and styling Palin? Perhaps you might question whether all those clothes and accessories were actually ever purchased. It’s been some time now, but, as I recall, there was at least one instance in which stores were questioned as to the expenses listed, only to find that they had no record of the claimed amounts being spent in their shops on the day in question (anyone else remember these?). It seems quite likely that much of the money supposedly spend on Palin ended up being “pocketed” by McCain staffers.
Yet, you’d prefer to blame Sarah Palin.
You’ve really got to get over this weird love-hate thing with Palin. It’s been clouding your judgment for months now.
Look at it this way: Had you been the guy who married her, you’d probably be that sad Jewish guy who found out his WASP wife was arrested in the men’s room at a football game having sex with a stranger. Be glad you didn’t get her.

My comments were based on Linda's previous (over-the-top, pants-wetting) praise of Oprah as a woman who rose to wealth and fame all on her own, and who is single-handly responsible for getting Obama elected.
Posted by: slwerner | December 05, 2008 at 02:17 PM
Sigma, couldn't you come up with some better reasons for not donating to the GOP?
I'll give you the Big 2
1. Fecklessness on illegal and legal immigration reform
2. No Child Left Behind--the biggest bunch of BS since Bigfoot

I was just making an off-color comment about what a disgusting sow that woman is...Anyone who thinks she is so great is a slack-jawed idiot. And isn't "Linda" really "Dan?"
[Half Sigma: correct, Linda and Dan post from the same IP address, as do "Larry," "Mica," "J," and a few other pseudonyms.]

Chitlin, I find Oprah extremely hard to take, as I do the Kennedys, Obama, and Curtis Sliwa. But describing Winfrey as a disgusting sow is way over the top. A good friend of mine dances with Alvin Ailey, and she told me how gracious Oprah was at the gala.

I don't have enough info to judge. What did Hillary Clinton spend on fashion, hair and makeup? What does Nancy Pelosi spend? What does Katie Couric spend to go on television every night? Pelosi and Cindy McCain at least have personal fortunes to rely on, and Couric's makeup and hair are bundled right into the network's overall makeup budget. Its possible Palin's numbers really are high and that's why they're being reported, but given the media's sympathies, its also possible liberal women's numbers are comparable but not considered newsworthy.
Posted by: Saladman | December 05, 2008 at 03:30 PM
Something else: one of Hillary Clinton's pantsuit designers expressed surprise during the $150,000 clothing budget debate that Palin's outfits weren't simply donated, but implied that the retail sticker prices of several thousand dollars per outfit were about right. Well, fine, but which way do fashion designers tend to lean politically? Palin's IQ and implied moral failings are unnecessary to explain the clothing and fashion bills. Its possible that its simply an artifact of a non-wealthy conservative stepping onto the national media stage and not getting the same behind the scenes considerations a liberal would get. The same people would be slamming her if she wore her fur coat and hunting boots to the convention.

So, our bloghost gives money to the GOP. The GOP gives it to one of the wrong kind of white people who spends it on clothes and hair. This is great! I love it!
You're right, you should stop giving money to the political party middleman. Just give it to us rednecks directly. Can I spend some of your money on, say, cowboy boots and leather vests?

"1. Fecklessness on illegal and legal immigration reform"
This kind of stuff is just the result of the corporate backers giving big money to the campaigns. As much as a lot of people hate the idea of public financing for campaigns, one thing you can say is that if campaigns were completely financed by the public, the only people that representatives would be accountable to would be the voters -- and not to their big-money bankrollers. A GOP that was accountable only to the voters might take a hard line on immigration.

I just love watching people defend that idiot. Who cares about the spending? The woman's a moron. The GOP is done.
Posted by: JewishAtheist | December 05, 2008 at 05:51 PM
Whatever. I'm actually going to defend Palin on this one. It costs lots of money to look good on TV. Not just good, (vice-)Presidential. How much do Hollywood stars spend on makeup? (Or, rather, the studio.) You expect the GOP, which is spending millions of dollars on TV ads, not to drop a few hundred thou to make sure their No. 2 candidate looks good on TV?
How much did Obama's columns cost? How much did it cost to rent the stadium? Come on, guys. I dislike money in politics as much as the next basement-dwelling political junkie but if you're going to play the game you've got to buy the equipment.
Posted by: SFG | December 06, 2008 at 09:46 AM
SFG, did Margaret Thatcher spend six figures on her hair and makeup? I think not.
Margaret Thatcher = REAL conservative
Sarah Palin = blank slate under hundreds of thousands of dollars of clothes and makeup
Posted by: Half Sigma | December 06, 2008 at 09:57 AM
I stopped giving them money because the people who run the GOP are morons who abandoned true conservatism sometime early in Bush II's term.
