I found this photo on Flickr.

So how did I find this photo? I followed a junkmail link in my Flickr inbox to a "nerd" group. And then I saw this picture of nerds, and even before I knew that Bernie Goetz was in the photo, I thought, "Wow, that's a really cool picture of nerds. Remind me never to join a ham radio club."
And then I noticed that a semi-famous person was part of the group. The photo was too good not to post here.
I'm not cyber-stalking Bernie Goetz, although I do have fond memories of the incident. It happened when I was in high school. At the time, the subway was full of scary-looking black youths, probably due to rampant turnstile-jumping. I felt that Bernie Goetz gave them what they deserved.
After Guiliani became mayor, he instituted a crackdown on quality of life crimes like graffiti and turnstile-jumping. This helped to make the subways a lot safer. The cost of the subway fare keeps out a lot of the riffraff.
