Racism, pure and evil
Comparing George Bush to a chimpanzee is considered enlightened liberalism, but doing the same thing to Obama is considered racist.
The cartoon is actually a parody of a recent story about a crazed chimp shot by police. Who knows if the NY Post cartoonist knew that you’re not supposed to use chimpanzees in cartoons now that Obama is president? Maybe he wasn’t familiar with the Sock Obama controversy.
Hat tip to commenter "Rain And."
Duh! Who elected this guy?
I thought the cartoon was pretty well done. But Al Sharpton is involved. Go figure. But last I read the the NY Post has told Sharpton (and other whiners) to get bent. Good on them.

The objectionable thing about the Post's cartoon is not its parody of Obama, he's a fair target after all, but the way it uses a recent and tragic event for comedic effect.

I've been doing that for years(I'm not the only one either). Grow a pair.

The dumbest part is that legislation in the US is created by Congress, not the president. So there's no comparison between Obama and a chimpanzee at all.

Anytime certain types can creech RAYSISM, they'll do it.

anon - "Anytime certain types can creech RAYSISM, they'll do it."
Personally, I like Eric Holder's criticisms about (white) people self-segregating on weekends.
I rather doubt he's looking forward to having a beer and watching NASCAR with a bunch of average white "Joe's" - he'd rather get down at the club with some white "ho's".
Cleavon Little (as Sheriff Bart in Blazing Saddles) asked the same basic questions as does Holder, only he was more direct about - "Where the white women at?"

The reason the PC crowd is getting bent out of shape about this cartoon is that Obama indeed possesses simian features: he more resembles an organ monkey than a chimp.

Bush does actually resemble like a chimp, however.

I had thought that the whole point of electing Obama was to end all this race shake-down shite.

Protestors gathered today:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090219/us_nm/us_chimp_attack_cartoon
"You would have to be in a time warp or in a whole other world not to know what that means," said demonstrator Charles Ashley, 25, a model who did not believe the cartoon was an innocent political joke.
Others said it made light of assassinating Obama, a possibility they said that worries many African-Americans.
"Just the fact that they put a monkey with gunshot wounds in his chest, it gives the idea of an assassination," said Peter Aviles, 48, a building superintendent.
When I read the above, I couldn't stop laughing.

Speaking at a conference of the New York Academy of Medicine on Wednesday morning, Mr. Paterson said that while he had not seen the cartoon...
Heh!

And speaking of "protests" you might want to cancel your flight:

Thanks. That was hilarious!

Are you retarded?
It's not a double standard when you take into consideration that African Americans have been unfavorably compared to apes, especially chimpanzees, thoughout history.

I, for one, welcome our new monkey overlords!

"It's not a double standard when you take into consideration that African Americans have been unfavorably compared to apes, especially chimpanzees, thoughout history."
Since the cartoon is comparing Pelosi (etc) to a crazed chimp, then it was just as "racist" to compare G. Bush to a chimp. The "racism" nonsense depends on peoples' ignorance about who actually writes laws...are you retarded?

Jim Johnson,
So, you're saying that it isn't a double standard because we have different standards for determining how we are allowed to mock whites and blacks?
What do we call it when we judge different groups by different standards for no good reason?
Is it two standards, twin standards, dual standards?
A double standard, perhaps? Naw, that can't be it.

Just curious, disregarding the whole silly Obama angle, would anyone find this comic funny just in itself? It seems incredibly lame stretch to inject humor into current events. It's disappointing to see someone who gets paid to do something engaging like satire just phone it in. The right needs better humorists. It's not as if their want for material.

You're right, it's not a double standard; it's a double standard with an excuse.
But don't mind me, I'm ALL FOR double standards. The sooner whites resume them, the better.

HS, how would you feel about a cartoon that depicted all those Right Wing Jews making Bush's Iraq War policy as rats?
Republicans called Democrats "DemocRATS", so it would be the same as depicting Republican Jews as rats, right?
Or do you think the previous antisemitism portraying Jews as rats gives special meaning to this imagery when used against Jews?
Do you think the previous racist imagery depicting Blacks as monkeys is relevant to this cartoon? Or does the cartoonist start with a blank slate?
