McCarren Pool update: convicted felon selling locks

The guy at the McCarren pool trying to make money by selling locks was discovered to be a convicted felon:

Wilburn, 49, has been in prison three times — twice for grand larceny and attempted robbery and once for drug possession, records show — and he has been charged with public lewdness 14 times and has multiple orders of protection filed against him by women, police sources said.

Of course this guy is black, and not a white hipster.

This is kind of a valid point. It's not truly a bogus crime, but it's one that the zillions of cops patrolling the pool ignored until they discovered his criminal past.

I dunno. Selling locks is a normal thing to do. I don't see the problem with selling locks. However, the intense micro management by NYC pays off sometimes, I guess. Like the stopped watch that is right 2x a day. None of our pools have security. You have to laugh that a "free" pool has to have 16 cops. Can you explain how paying 16 cops is free? Free admission for NAMS means sky high taxes for the city. $5 admission is a self supporting pool and needs far less if any security. Our local pool charges $5 for city residents and $10 for non-residents. It includes a lane pool. A pool just for diving, and a family fun pool. I don't think our city even has 16 cops. The pool is next to the police and fire stations though.

I'd imagine that with such a high amount of police, the "pool brutes" would be arrested after throwing a single punch.

Agree, but the fact that the races of the perps (and their pictures) are omitted is suspicious.

Sounds like this has a whole lot of predictive power. He shouldn't be at a pool around girls.

Yeah, but if this lowlife goes off and kidnaps some kid or sexually harrasses some women near the pool then the city will have to answer for it. They will be raked over the coals for having sat there and allowed a convicted felon to operate an illegal business near a pool full of kids and young families.

I wouldn't buy a lock from anyone selling poolside. Who knows if extra keys or combinations are floating around.

People might not realize but a lock can be a pretty serious weapon. Given the problems at the pool it was probably a good idea to stop him from distributing potential weapons. But it sounds like he was trying to go straight. Arresting him on a bogus charge like that will just discourage him and put him back on the wrong track.

A black person in a similar social class as those white kids who did donuts at the Jewish camp probably doesn't distinguish much between Jews and other whites (unless he's a black Muslim).
