It’s really stupid to go to a dance party in areas controlled by the Taliban.

When Afghan kills Afghan, that's a win for us no matter what.

I tend to have pretty low expectations of certain groups of people but this still got my attention.
Sawing off the heads of large numbers of Muslim teenagers who aren't being Muslim enough?
Things are getting civilized in that part of the world, no question.
The left's love affair with Islam is proof that leftism is not a coherent ideology but rather that the core of leftism is about tweaking the right and going after western institutions.
If you are foremost women's rights, freedom of expression, progressivism and sexual freedom and all the rest, then it is plain as day that illiberal Islam is the polar opposite of all those things and illiberal Islam should be high on your list of enemies, if you were remotely coherent.
Also, look at gay rights. HIV continues to be a far bigger issue for gays than gay 'marriage'. For instance there are about 600K gay men with HIV (out of maybe twice that number of active adult gay men, so the odds are huge). Meanwhile stats show that so far only a small percentage of gays marry.
But SSM gets 100x the focus of HIV because it tweaks the right and is thought to undermine institutions.

Dancing Bacha Bazi boys would have been ok, though.

"Dancing Bacha Bazi boys would have been ok, though." Camslot
To my understanding the Taliban disapproves of that and it was illegal under their rule though individual Taliban may still have practiced it. Bacha bazi was punishable by death and it only came back into full force with the overthrow of the Taliban. There is a reason the Taliban remains so strong where as our US backed allies are weak. The Taliban are popular like it or not. This party may have been doing Bacha Bazi but the article doesn't provide details. It certainly wasn't a wedding party.

Maybe they just didn't like the type of music being played - was it disco or something? We should try to be more understanding of different cultures and not just jump to adverse conclusions.
Also from the article you link:
Insider attacks have been a problem for the U.S.-led military coalition for years, but it has exploded recently into a crisis. There have been at least 33 such attacks so far this year, killing 42 coalition members, mostly Americans. Last year there were 21 attacks, killing 35; and in 2010 there were 11 attacks with 20 deaths.
Perhaps Mr. Romney and Mr. Obama could explain why this was such a good idea in the first place.

"The killings, in a district where U.S. Marines have battled the Taliban for years, were a reminder of how much power the insurgent group still wields in the south — particularly as international forces draw down and hand areas over to Afghan forces."
the war is over, we lost. That's okay, there was nothing to win.

Sure. But don't forget blank slate beliefs on both sides of political spectrum made Afghanistan America's adopted problem child.
The mainstream right drummed the idea into everyone's head that Bin Laden would be there and Afghanistan could be easily transformed into America Jr. with democracy. All the country needed was little tough love and imperialistic guidance! Meanwhile the far left predicted it would turn into another Vietnam, which it did. If we had listened to them just that once, America would be better off.

Yeah, I've read the same thing in several places. I believe that CIA reports also credit the Taliban with extinguishing the poppy growing industry in areas they control, historically speaking. Of course the Afghan opium trade has increased again in recent years with the near destruction of the Taliban.

Muslims know they are on liberals list for extinction. Why do you think they saw the heads off teenagers? Liberal embrace of Islam is defeat the near enemy(christians) before the far enemy(any reactionary).
