A Louisiana woman who said she had been set afire by white supremacists inflicted her injuries herself, police said Tuesday.
Sharmeka Moffitt was found in a city park in Winnsboro, in rural northeastern Louisiana, on Sunday night with burns over 90% of her body. The 20-year-old told police she had been attacked and set ablaze by three men who wrote "KKK" on her car, but Winnsboro Police Chief Lester Thomas said Tuesday afternoon that evidence found on a cigarette lighter and a bottle of charcoal lighter fluid showed "this was not an attack, but a self-inflicted incident."
Thanks to readers for alerting me to this news.
If there’s a message here, it’s that black women too often make up fake crimes committed against them by whites, and the gullible MSM is always fooled by it, because the liberals who control the MSM really want to believe that there are all these crimes being committed by whites against blacks.
And how about the Monday posting by some DailyKos moron ranting about how the crime wasn’t yet officially called a hate crime (despite the fact that without any perpetrators the point is moot because there’s no one to charge with a crime).
But it sure is pretty whacked that she would set herself on fire just for publicity.
When I saw the headline for this incident and the accompanying picture of the woman on MSN.com, I immediately suspected it was bogus.
I'm sure that some "DailyKos type moron" will soon switch gears and say something along the lines of: "It doesn't matter that this is a fake hate crime! This is a great opportunity to create a dialogue about racism in this country!"

She should have accused the local lacrosse team.

This is the third woman (at least) this year to set herself on fire (in the other cases there was no apparent hate crime angle).
And while we're talking about false charges, let's not forget about Bethany Storro and Zachary Tennen.

The Daily Mail version of the story noted,
"It is not known why she self-immolated or reported that her injuries were the work of apparent white supremacists, police said."
Gee, let me think, why would blacks fake a hate crime? Fame, money, or to highlight racism in America right before the election? No, we cannot say that. Just as all robberies and assaults on whitey are "random" - the motivation is not racism but something totally inexplicable to any rational observer - this was a completely random self-immolation blamed on whitey.

The KKK exists largely in blacks' imaginations, so it doesn't surprise me that she wrote that.

Your last two posts were instructive. A 12-year old white girl tortured and murdered by blacks. No outrage.
A black woman burns herself and tries to scapegoat whites. Outrage by blacks and white lefties at the nonexistent white racism.
As the US becomes more Asian, Arab and Hispanic, will these groups put up with this when they are victimized the way white people do?

Actually, shouldn't this be treated as a hate crime? I mean it looks like the woman tried to inflict damage on white males. No specific person, just white males in general.

Incredible.
I've heard this news on the Italian RAI radio (through an internet connection from France...)yesterday.
I guess nothing has been said since and all over the world people believe that KKK is still burning black women...

This looks like evidence of what you know as future-time orientation. I thought it interesting that they didn't bother to mention who/what kinds of people were more likely to see themselves accurately in the future.

The first article I saw about the original report of an attack, didn't include a line about "police are on the lookout for three suspects, described as..."
That's usually a sign that the complaint lacked credibility from the beginning. In the Duke lacrosse case, it wasn't law enforcement pushing it.

Look at her pic and tell me you think she's only 20. Irrelevant to the story, I know, but still. As to motivation, obviously Dick Morris has her worried.

I know a lot of white "supremacists" (Montana-cabin type). They are often limited intellectually and xenophobic (their racism is emotion-based, not science-based), but they are usually non-violent and Christian, and are actually a pretty sympathetic bunch.
That's why I always have trouble at first believing the reports of "white supremacist hate crime" in the medias.

Remember a few years back when that white chick burned her face with acid and said it was a black woman who did it, and then it turned out she made it up?
I can understand why a black might sometime make up a fake hate crime, but why would a white person do it? What do they stand to gain?

@Otis:
A person who sets herself on fire or burns her face with acid probably is the sort of person who will say a lot of ridiculous things.

I think some skepticism about the police is also in order.

Somebody should write a book about all the times the MSM jumped to false conclusions about made up stories that made blacks or gays look like victims. Now, of course, no major publishing house would go anywhere near it, but maybe you could self-publish or find some small conservative publisher.
